Techniques I Use

Rather than following a routine, I select from a variety of techniques and treatment approaches according to your body’s needs on any particular day.

The descriptions below are intentionally simplified. For a more detailed explanation, please visit the Information & Resources page.

CranioSacral Therapy

A very gentle hands-on approach that works with subtle tension patterns affecting the head, spine, sacrum and surrounding tissues. Treatment is adapted to the individual and may support comfort, movement, relaxation and nervous-system regulation.

Myofascial Release

Fascia is the continuous connective-tissue network that surrounds and links structures throughout the body. Injury, surgery, repetitive strain or prolonged guarding can reduce tissue mobility. Sustained tension is used to reduce restriction and improve tissue mobility

Myofascial Unwinding

Myofascial unwinding is a process in which the body, rather than I, as the therapist, guides the movement.  As abnormal tension, stress or injury patterns begin to release, the body may spontaneously move through a sequence of positions and movements associated with those patterns. I follow and support the movement without directing it, allowing the body to determine its own sequence and pace.
The movements are unique to the individual and cannot be predetermined or reproduced by me.

Visceral Manipulation

Using a very light touch on your abdomen, I can assess and treat restrictions affecting the tissues around internal organs and their connections with the rest of the body.

Acupressure

Firm pressure is applied to selected acupressure points as one component of an individualized treatment session.

Therapeutic Touch

I use a quiet, soothing touch to support relaxation, comfort and the body’s natural healing processes. I may do this on its own or alongside other techniques such as visualization and breathing.

Red Light & Cold Laser Therapy

Medical-grade red light and low-level laser therapy are the only mechanical tools I use in treatment. They are always used in conjunction with the hands-on therapies described above and may be applied to selected tissues to support healing, reduce pain and inflammation, and assist tissue recovery.

SomatoEmotional Release®

A mindful approach I use when physical tension appears connected with emotional experience or past trauma. It is not counselling. I follow the client’s pace, and it may be used alongside professional counselling or other healthcare when appropriate.

Movement, Exercise & Self-Care

Movement, posture, balance, gait, breathing, visualization and individualized home suggestions may all be part of treatment. The aim is to make useful changes practical enough to become part of everyday life.
